How Inspection Works in Bulk Commodity Shipments

Inspection is an important part of many bulk commodity shipments. It may help confirm quality, quantity, packing, loading condition or other agreed parameters before or during shipment.
The scope of inspection should be defined in the commercial agreement. It can vary by product, origin, destination requirements and the third-party inspection company engaged by the parties.
What inspection can cover
For products such as sugar, urea, sulfur or potassium chloride, inspection may include sampling, laboratory analysis, weight verification, visual condition checks and document review. Not every shipment requires the same scope, and the buyer should clarify expectations early.
- Inspection certificate issuance
Agree the process before shipment
The inspection company, inspection point, cost responsibility, certificate format and timing should be agreed before shipment planning advances. This reduces ambiguity and helps each party understand what documentation will be available.
